Mark Johnson joins the Whitecaps in his first season as their pitching coach after spending the 2007 season as pitching coach of short-season Oneonta in his first professional coaching assignment. He helped lead Oneonta to a Stedler Division Title in the New York-Penn League last season. Drafted in the first round of the 1996 amateur draft by the Houston Astros, Johnson pitched nine seasons in six different organizations (Astros, Marlins, Yankees, Tigers, Brewers and Dodgers). He spent the majority of his playing career in the Tigers organization (2000-03, 2005), including his lone Major League appearance in 2000, pitching in nine games for Detroit. Mark resides in Erie, Pa. with his wife Mary Kay.
